Pollination Degradation
This layer maps the present-day degradation of pollination over pollinator-dependent crops, the level of the Pollination row in Resilience.
Source: GLOBIO 4 MSA, WRI Aqueduct 4.0, Chaplin-Kramer et al. (2019) Year: 2015 Category: Scenario Coverage: Crops that depend on pollinators; 0 elsewhere on land Format: Raster grid (COG), 1 km Used in risk analysis: Yes. It is the present-day level of the Pollination row in Resilience. It is not a Sites & territories materiality flag: that flag reads Pollination Deficit (Chaplin-Kramer).
What it shows
This layer shows how degraded pollination is today, in points, over crops that depend on pollinators. Resilience reads it as the level of the Loss of pollination row. The projected change comes from the Pollination shock layers.
How it is built
The level is built from its components (version 1):
D = min(100, 1.0 × D_Species + 0.3 × 100 × D_Water)
- D_Species is
1 − MSA, from GLOBIO 4 for 2015. - D_Water is the Aqueduct baseline water stress score divided by 5. Arid basins read 0.
- Wind has no term, because it has no pristine reference.
The components, coefficients and mask are the same as in the Pollination shock layers. The mask keeps crops that depend on pollinators, where the Chaplin-Kramer (2015) deficit is above 0. Every other land cell reads 0.
How to read it
0 points means no degradation, 100 points the maximum. Read the value with these limits:
- Unversioned coefficients. The 1.0 and 0.3 coefficients come from the description of the shock layers, because the script that built those layers is not versioned.
- A dependence on Species. Species sits high and flat on any cultivated cell (median 0.70 on the site bench). The level therefore separates crop cells barely better than the Chaplin-Kramer deficit does. Read it as a dependence on Species rather than as a pollination signal.
- A next version is planned. Millard et al. (2021) is the source of version 2.
